Walking with poles (Nordic Walking)

It's time to get ready for an outdoor sport that combines the benefits of aerobic & strength building.

Whether you call it ski-pole walking, Urban Poling or Nordic Walking, this class is going to challenge your mind and your body. The Finnish cross-country ski team and winter biathlon teams developed the workout as part of their summer training. But if training like an Olympian isn't enough to motivate you, maybe burning 28% more calories will - because that's how many extra calories you'll burn during this workout!

In addition to burning fat, you'll also work the back of the arms, upper back, shoulders, chest, forearms and abdomen muscles while you walk. Plus, to ensure everyone is getting maximum results, we limit our walking groups to seven people.

When: Monday evenings
Time: 7:30pm
Where: Meeting place is at 1555 west 7th Ave, Studio 227. We'll walk down to the seawall at Granville Island
Dates:Starting Monday Oct 5 to Monday Oct 26 (No class on Thanksgiving Oct 12)
Cost: $50.00 for 3 classes, this includes the use of the poles

When: Wednesday mornings
Time: 8am
Where: Meeting place is at 1555 west 7th Ave, Studio 227. We'll walk down to the seawall at Granville Island
Dates: Starting Wednesday Sept 30 to Oct 14
Cost: $50.00 for 3 classes, this includes the use of the poles

Each session will run for 3 weeks and in the sesssions you'll:

  • learn how to use the Nordic Walking poles with safety and technique as a priority;
  • burn 28% more calories than normal walking and use 90% of your muscles;
  • improve your cardiovascular fitness.

Class size
Limited to 7 people. We like to keep classes small to make sure everyone has personal attention.

Nordic Walking Leader
All classes are lead by a BCRPA Certified Personal Trainer with additional training to lead Nordic Walking classes.
